Men's soccer defeats Centenary College, 2-0

MADISON, N.J. -- Freshman forward Justin Estremera and sophomore midfielder Jose Guardado scored a goal apiece to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's soccer team past Centenary College, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

The victory improved FDU-Florham to 2-4-2 on the season while the Cyclones fell to 2-4.

FDU-Florham outshot the Cyclones, 26-17, and junior goalie JT Bretschneider made seven saves to earn the shutout.

Estremera continued his dominant offensive campaign with a goal 9:28 in the first half, off a pass from senior midfielder Dylan Meyler to put the Devils up early, 1-0.

Solid goaltending from Centenary College's Devon Warne prevented the Devils from exiting the half with a larger lead.

The second half highlighted aggressive play from each side, but the Devils kicked their offense into gear with 18 shots.

Finally Guardado was rewarded for his persistence when he scored a beautiful insurance goal in the 86th minute. Estremera dribbled up the field and placed a through ball to Guardado, who beat out a Cyclone's defender and placed the ball neatly in the left pocket of the net to make it 2-0.

Senior forward Andrew Ruane also had a standout game, providing several scoring opportunities for the Devils with five shots. On defense, senior defender Gio Aiello impressed with his ability to halt the quick feet of Centenary's offense.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 against Arcadia University at 3:30 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
