Estremera's hat trick leads Devils past Pacers, 4-2

MADISON, NJ -- Freshman Justin Estremera's hat trick led the way for the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's soccer team to grab its first win of the season, defeating Marywood University, 4-2, in the Home Opener at Robert T. Shields Field on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The Devils improved to 1-4-2 while the Pacers fell to 2-3 on the season.

FDU-Florham played a resilient game by responding to each of Marywood's tying goals and outshooting their opponent, 18-11.

With even play through most of the first half, Estremera made the first strike, nailing in a shot in front of the Pacers' net off a breakaway for his first collegiate goal, to put the Devils up 1-0 at 34:44.

The Pacers answered back in the second half though, tying up the contest when Dylan McMahon beat out a Devils' defender and sniped a shot from the right side that found it's place in the bottom left corner of the net.

However, the Devils were persistent on offense and at 77:56, Estremera scored his second goal of the game with a shot in front of the net off a pass from senior midfielder AJ Carnevale.

Still, Marywood University found a way to answer back as Cole Belcher tied up the game by poking in a loose ball in a scrum in front of the net.

Not even a minute later, the Devils showed their resiliency. Senior captain Sebastian Gallo connected a perfect header into the Pacers' net from a throw-in by senior forward Andrew Ruane to re-take the lead, 3-2.

Estremera completed his dominant campaign at 87:07 with a breakaway, scoring once again from the left side to earn the hat trick and the Devils' 4-2 win.

FDU-Florham junior goalie JT Bretschneider made seven saves in the victory.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. against Centenary College at Robert T. Shields Field.
