MADISON, NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham field hockey team fell to the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins in the Home Opener on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Robert T. Shields Field.
The loss dropped FDU-Florham to 2-2 on the season as the Griffins rose to 3-1.
The Devils jumped out as the more aggressive team, scoring just 6:48 seconds into the game off a penalty corner from senior forward

Brooke Sherwin at the top of the circle. Sherwin slammed the ball past the Griffins' goalie for the Devils only goal of the night.
Gwynedd Mercy evened up the scored at 23:40 when Brianna O'Connell was able to poke an airborne ball into the net with her stick off an assist from junior Melissa Russo.

Lauren Brannan allowed FDU-Florham to leave the half tied, 1-1.
The second half was all Griffins from there though, as the Devils struggled to connect on several scoring opportunities and penalty corners.
Griffins' O'Connell couldn't be stopped as she netted a goal from the right side off an Allie Bauder assist just 16 seconds later.
The Griffins closed out the match with a penalty stroke that gave O'Connell a hat trick and a 4-1 win for Gwynedd Mercy.
The Devils take the field again to face Ramapo College on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Robert T. Shields Field at 7 p.m.
