Men's Lacrosse Falls to Farmingdale State 9-7

MADISON, N.J. – Despite piecing together an impressive run in the second half, the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham men's lacrosse team was unable to pull out the victory and ultimately fell 9-7 to the Farmingdale State College Rams on Tuesday night at Robert T. Shields Field.

Sophomore attack Daniel Stewart led the charge for the Devils (1-5) with a career-high four goals in the contest. Junior midfielder Dalton Rimmer also got in on the action, notching two goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Evans recorded his fourth double-digit save total on the season with 10 saves.

Within the first four minutes of the game the Rams (5-1) were able to get on the board with a goal from Tyler Rifice. However, by the end of the opening quarter, the Devils were able to take the lead once Stewart and Rimmer found the back of the net.

Early in the second quarter a Rams' shot was saved by the Evans, but it was put back in play and eventually the ball found its way over to Conor Pittard, who put it into the net for the score to knot the game up at 2-2.

Following another Evans' save, the Devils worked their way down the field and while Connor May had control of the ball, he found Stewart open and he buried the shot to put the Devils back in front.

The Devils were unable to hold onto their slim lead though as the Rams offense exploded for a 5-0 run that extended into the third quarter.

Trailing by five goals, the Devils began to chip into the deficit. Freshman Liam Nelson won the faceoff for the Devils and the ball found its way into Stewart's stick and he rifled the shot into the back of the net.

On the ensuing Devils' possession, Rimmer took a shot at the Rams' goal but it was saved by Thomas Fallon. However, the Devils maintained possession and Rimmer got another shot and capitalized when Stewart found him open near the net.

FDU-Florham won the faceoff again and after two shots went wide, Stewart stepped up and buried the ball into the net to cut the deficit to one.

The Rams were quick to counter though as Michael Cegielski scored less than a minute later off of a pass from Ryan Corbett to give the Rams an 8-6 advantage.

The lead was extended to three when Rifice scored his second goal of the game for the Rams, but the Devils managed to add one more final score in the closing minutes of the game off of a shot from Daniel Minnich.

Three more shots were put in the direction of the Rams' goal by three different FDU-Florham players, but they all were put just wide of the net and the Rams took the 9-7 victory.

The Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, March 29 as they host Drew University in the Battle of Madison Ave. at 7 p.m.
