ASHLAND, Va. (December 30, 2016) – The FDU men's basketball team dropped a tough 68-65 decision to Johns Hopkins in their final contest of 2016.
The Devils falter to 3-6 on the season, dropping their third straight game.
Junior
Veon Lassiter poured in 18 points off the bench, while classmate
Steve Herdman had 12 points. Kyle Doran of Hopkins led all scorers with 16 points on the night.
After Doran hit a three to put JHU up a point, FDU scored six straight markers, capped off with a jumper from
Alex Hanssen. Sophomore
Derek Leohner extended the Devils lead to double-digits with a layup, and Hanssen drained a trey to give FDU their biggest lead to go up 16 with 2:26 left in the opening half.
Johns Hopkins would close the half with a 7-0 run to bring the gap down to single digits at the half, and would tally five more beginning the second period trimming the deficit to four. The Blue Jays claimed the lead for good on a Doran jumper with just over 14 minutes left. Leohner hit a layup with 2:07 left, but that was as close as the Devils would get.
The Devils welcome Yeshiva on Monday night at 7 p.m. in nonconference action.
