Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Centenary

MADISON, N.J. (November 21, 2016) – The FDU women's basketball team limited Centenary to 18 points over the final three quarters en route to a 76-32 victory Monday night.

The win moved FDU to 2-1 while Centenary suffered its first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1.

A layup by senior Rachel Groom capped off an early 7-2 run to give the Devils a lead they did not give up the remainder of the game. A pair of free throws by Heather Yaros cut the Devils edge to under double-digits, but senior Alyssa Mcdonough hit a layup and converted the free throw giving FDU an 11 point first quarter lead.

A Mcdonough layup with 12 seconds left in the second period gave FDU their biggest lead of the first 20 minutes, heading into halftime up 18. Centenary shot a hair better in the opening half, 47.37%-43.3%.

The second half belonged solely to the Devils, as they outscored the Cyclones 35-9, including a 14-0 spurt in the fourth quarter. All 10 players who saw action recorded at least one point.

Freshman Kendrea Williams poured in a career-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-12 from three. Mcdonough narrowly missed a double-double, totaling 12 points and nine boards. Groom also teetered on the double-double line, going for nine points and 10 rebounds.

Mallory George led Centenary with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Devils are back in action on Saturday, heading south to take on Stevenson at 4 p.m.
