DALLAS, P.A. - The FDU-Florham men's soccer fell, 4-2, in a wind-swept match against first place Misericordia University Saturday night.
The Cougars pressed the Devils into mistakes coming out of defense and were able to recycle their own possession to create a number of early chances.
Misericordia's first goal came fourteen minutes in as senior defender Dante Ippolito sent a looping ball from deep on the right wing towards senior midfielder Trey Zeigler at the back post who headed the ball over the Devils' keeper and into the back of the net.
Ippolito would double the Cougar's lead ten minutes later with a sensational goal. FDU-Florham again had trouble clearing and the Misericordia player turned from thirty yards out and looped the ball into the upper right corner.
Despite not controlling possession as they had in the previous few matches, the Devils were not without their own opportunities. With just under four minutes left in the half, senior midfielder AJ Carnevale would get the visitors on the board.
This time, Misericordia was the team struggling to clear the ball. FDU-Florham midfielder John Fredy Gutierrez sent a pass beyond the Cougar defense and Carnevale was able to beat the keeper and tap the ball home.
Cougar's senior midfielder Chris Edkins would add to Misericordia's lead 6 minutes after halftime as he headed a free kick into the back of the net.
FDU-Florham didn't quit and after stifling a Cougar's counterattack, senior midfielder Dylan Meyler found sophomore forward Jose Guardado in the box who finished neatly past the keeper.
Three minutes later, however, Misericordia would finish the game off by way of another headed goal, this time from junior midfielder Devin Marriott.
The Devils will finish their regular season next Saturday, Oct. 29, at King's College at 7:30 p.m., where a win would secure FDU-Florham's place in the MAC Freedom tournament.
