Devils Dominate and clinch Post-Season Berth

WILKES-BARRE, P.A. – FDU-Florham field hockey team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Kings College in a crucial MAC Freedom Conference tilt.  With the win, the Devils (12-5, 5-1 MAC Freedom) have secured a spot in the Freedom Conference Playoffs and have taken sole possession of first place.

On Saturday afternoon, the Devils pounced on the Monarchs (11-6) and never let up, burying the game's first three scores in the first half en route to the victory.

Freshman Maggie Sohns struck first off a penalty corner just :54 seconds in to the contest. The Devils never looked back and continued the offensive surge amassing sixteen penalty corners in the first half.

At 30:24, Sohns struck again with a perfect pass from Senior Alicia Theoret off a Devils penalty corner for a 2-0 Devils lead.

The Devils continued to keep possession of the ball with high pressure and deceptive passing.  The offensive momentum allowed for the Devils to score again just before the half.  Off another penalty corner at the 33:56 mark, Senior Erin O'Connell had a picture perfect give and go with Junior teammate Makayla Pak to give the Devils a 3-0 lead.

The Devils controlled possession and carried that three-goal edge into the break. The Monarchs came out strong in the second half being awarded five penalty corners but thanks to a dominant defensive corner unit, the Devils thwarted all scoring opportunities for the opposition.  The Devils defense were led by O'Connell, Pak, Sophomore Goalkeeper Samantha Rubin, Senior Noelle Shirey, and Junior Lauren Brannan as they prevented the Monarchs from scoring.  Rubin secured the shutout for the Devils.

Once the final whistle sounded, the Devils had outshot the Monarchs 9-3 and held an 18-11 advantage in penalty corners.  The Devils will travel to in state rival Montclair State University on Tuesday, October 25th for a non-conference match.
