DALLAS, Pa. -- The FDU-Florham volleyball team held off a Misericordia comeback by dominating the fifth set to notch a 3-2 conference victory on Tuesday night.
FDU-Florham won the first pair or sets but the Cougars were able to claw back and tie things up. However, it was the Devils who came out on top with a 15-5 triumph in the fifth set.Â
Both squads were evenly matched with FDU-Florham slightly edging out the Cougars on points, assists and digs. The Devils, however, powered out 12 aces to Misericordia's five.
Sophomore outside hitter
Lauren Harris led with 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Sophomore
Kate Quinlan and junior
Melissa Gaffney combined for 18 kills while Gaffney notched 14 digs, three aces and two blocks. Freshman
Nathalia Padron also added eight kills in the attack.
Junior setter
Courtney Conte contributed 42 assists and three aces while classmate
Rachel Catena made a crucial 32 digs in the victory and recorded two aces of her own.
Sophomore
Marissa Lehnert added two blocks in the effort while Quinlan made one.
Up next, the Devils head to Purchase, N.Y. Â to face Manhattanville College in a conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
