MADISON, N.J. -- Thanks to a diving save from sophomore goalie
Samantha Rubin with 50 seconds left in regulation time, the FDU-Florham field hockey team defeated their Madison Ave rival Drew University, 2-1, Tuesday night.
The Devils were leading by one when Drew's Madi Sheetz took a diving shot to the open right side of the net, but Rubin made stellar diving save to halt the Rangers' last ditch effort.
FDU-Florham's offensive was led by senior forward
Kim Davis who scored the first goal and notched an assist.
Davis' goal came on a penalty stroke opportunity just 6:50 in the contest to put the Devils up early.
However, Drew's Kate Todero broke through with a goal at 19:09 to even up the score at the half.
FDU-Florham continued to fire shots but couldn't get another past Rangers goalie Ryann Callaghan who made 11 saves in the night while the Rangers recorded two defensive saves.
Finally, it was junior forward
Marissa Kowalskie who tallied the game-winner in the 53rd minute off a feed from Davis to complete the victory.
FDU-Florham returns to conference action against Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Robert T. Shields Field.
