DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- With 35 seconds left on the clock, sophomore forward
Jose Guardado blasted a shot past the opposing goalie from the top of the 18-box to lift the FDU-Florham men's soccer team over Delaware Valley, 2-1, for their second-straight conference win on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
The Aggies cleared the ball out of their zone, but senior defender
Sebastian Gallo won the ball in the air with a header to push it back into the opposing zone. He then sprinted up to follow his own ball, beat the Aggie defender and sent a perfect through ball to Guardado who finished the ball neatly into the upper left pocket of the net to claim the victory.
The Devils (4-6-3, 2-1 MAC Freedom), were trailing to Delware Valley, 1-0, after Max Drummond netted a first half goal. Then with nine minutes to go in the game, senior midfielder
AJ Carnevale was able to steal the ball from the Aggie defender and pass it up to freshman forward
Justin Estremera who one-timed the ball over the goalie's head to tie up the contest.Â
Nine minutes later, Guardado notched the game-winner.
Despite having a 13-4 shot-on-goal advantage over the Aggies, FDU-Florham struggled to get one past goalie Connor Hedgepath who made 11 saves in the loss.
Guardado and senior forward
Andrew Ruane led the offensive campaign with a combined total of 17 shots each. In goal, junior
JT Bretschneider made three saves to earn the victory.
The Devils return home on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. when they take on Eastern University in conference play at the Florham Campus upper grass field.
