HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Three second-half goals by Centenary College downed the FDU-Florham men's soccer team 3-1 on Wednesday evening at t
he J.E Reeves Jr. Field.
The Devils (3-4-1) let a 1-0 lead get away as the Cyclones (3-4) stormed past them with the big second-half surge. After the two teams played 59 minutes of scoreless soccer, junior midfielder
AJ Carnevale broke through for the Devils with his fifth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Jose Guardado served a cross to Carnevale, who promptly fired it into the back left corner of the net for the game's first strike.
With their defense limiting the Cyclones' scoring chances, the Devils looked poised for a low-scoring victory. But in the 72nd minute, a pinball in the box which
deflected off of numerous players eventually found its way to Centenary's Nick DePasquale who shot it into a wide-open net for the equalizer.
Less than a minute later, Luis Marin delivered a through-ball to Makenson Joseph who immediately forwarded it along to Daniel Lamanna for what proved to be the game-deciding score. Joseph tacked on an insurance goal for the Cyclones in the 75th minute as they completed the 3-1 win.
The Devils dropped the contest despite dominating time of possession and outshooting the Cyclones 21-11 in the contest, including 11-5 on net. Centenary's Jesse Goleman needed to make 10 saves to aid his team in the victory, while Nick Mihalik make three stops for the Devils.
