MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team found the touch in the second half, netting three goals en route to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Berkeley College (N.J.) on Saturday evening.
Junior midfielder
AJ Carnevale netted the game-winner for the Devils (3-3-1) in the 65
th minute before they tacked on one more moments later to seal the win against the Knights (1-5).
It seemed to be just a matter of time before the Devils broke through as the team had several quality scoring chances but Berkeley goalkeeper
Nick Araujo played an outstanding half of soccer and made eight first-half saves to keep the Devils off of the board through 45 minutes of action.
Finally in the 56
th minute, a sharp corner kick from
George Batista found the head of
Sebastian Gallo who knocked it past Araujo for the game's first goal. However, the Devils' lead was short-lived as
Bryan Costa netted the equalizer just 10 seconds later by firing a blast from 15-yards out to the upper left corner of the net.
In the 65
th minute, Carnevale buried the game-winning score and highlight of the match when he took a long cross from
Gio Aiello out of the air and one-timed a rocket to the right side of the net. The goal was Carnavale's third of the season and proved to be the difference.
At the 66:50 mark,
Andrew Ruane finished an insurance goal by taking a pass from
Jose Guardado and delivering it into the corner of the net for his third goal of the campaign.
Arauajo finished with nine saves in the loss, while FDU-Florham goalkeeper
Nick Mihalik returned to action and made one save to earn the win.
The Devils begin a three-game road trip when they take on Centenary College this Wednesday, September 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Hackettstown, N.J.
