Devils Top Valiants for Sixth Straight Win

MADISON, N.J. – For the sixth-straight outing, the FDU-Florham volleyball team was victorious, topping Manhattanville College 3-1 (25-23, 25-11, 22-25, 25-13) in four sets on Wednesday night at the Ferguson Recreation Center.

The Devils (8-2) earned the victory over the Valiants (6-2) in both team's 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom opener.

Three Devils recorded double-digit kills in the victory led by Melissa Gaffney and Lauren Harris who each registered 15 put-aways.

Reigning MAC Freedom Volleyball Player of the Week Kristi Wong contributed 22 assists, 10 kills and five blocks in the conference tilt.

After squeezing out a close victory in set number one, the Devils rolled to a lopsided 25-11 rout in the second set. Junior libero Alex Mueller propelled the second-set victory with her hot-serving. Mueller served eight straight points and helped her team stake a 13-2 lead.

The Valiants refused to go away quietly and fought off a late rally from the Devils to take the third game 25-22.

Trailing 20-18 in the fourth set, the Devils rattled off five-straight scores and took a 23-20 advantage before holding on for the win.

Sophomore setter Codi Inloes-Williams handed out 22 assists, while the freshmen frontline of Sarah Hof and Kate Quinlan stymied the Valiants' attack with six block assists apiece.

Mueller finished with a match-high 21 digs and Gaffney and Wong earned double-doubles with 15 and 12 digs each.

Manhattanville setter Megan Quinabo dished out a match-high 28 assists, while adding 12 digs in the loss.

The Devils host CCNY and Mount St. Vincent for a tri-match this Saturday, September 19 with first serve set for 10 a.m.
