Devils Sweep First Day of North Jersey Challenge

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham volleyball team held court at the North Jersey Challenge by earning two victories on Friday night.

The Devils (5-2) topped St. Joseph's College (L.I.) 3-1 (25-13, 25-21, 24-26, 25-15) before finishing the night with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 29-27) sweep of St. Lawrence University.

In the four-set win over the Golden Eagles (2-4), the Devils came out firing and dominated the first set 25-13. St. Joseph's (LI) fought back to claw out a victory in the third set before FDU-Florham regained control and took the fourth set by 10 points.

Freshmen Kristi Wong and Lauren Harris paced the Devils' attack with 12 and 10 kills respectively, while Wong added 14 assists and nine digs to her ledger in the win. Sophomore setter Codi Inloes-Williams handed out 20 assists and fellow second-year Melissa Gaffney chipped in with nine put-aways in the match.

Heather Ferchland led the way for the Golden Eagles with 14 kills, while Courtney Wickline dished out 32 assists in the loss.
After waiting out the St. Joseph's and St. Lawrence (2-5) match, FDU-Florham returned to the court and took care of business in the nightcap.

The team swung to .269 attack percentage in the first set and received 10 kills apiece from Harris and Gaffney over the three-set win. Harris compiled a double-double by adding 11 digs, while Inloes-Williams and Wong split the setting duties with 14 and 15 handouts a piece.

Junior libero Alex Mueller played outstanding defense in both matches and finished with 14 digs in the latter effort.

The Saints' Lexi Brown led all attackers with 11 kills including several powerful finishes. St. Lawrence libero Mariah Dignan was all over the back row and continuously kept the volleys alive with her match-high 23 digs.

The Devils continue the Garden State Challenge tomorrow when they host College of New Rochelle and Gordon College beginning at 10 a.m.
