GLENSIDE, Pa. - The FDU-Florham women's tennis team notched its first Freedom Conference victory Thursday afternoon following a 6-3 win over the Arcadia University Knights in Glenside, Pa.
The Devils (4-6, 2-0 Freedom) kicked off singles play with a Nu-Kermeni Kermah (Trenton, N.J.) 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Viola Sawyer. Arcadia (2-5, 1-1 Freedom) responded by taking the next two singles matches. However, FDU-Florham closed out singles play with three wins. Freshman Serina Grande (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) defeated Kayla Haberbosch 6-1, 6-2. Remy Astorino (Fairfield, N.J.) followed that up by taking down Jennifer Khawam 6-1, 6-1.
In the final singles match, Tenzin Lama (Kearny, N.J.) defeated Sarah Hanley of Arcadia for the Devils fourth singles victory of the afternoon.
The Devils were defeated in their opening doubles match, but bounced right back with a Jill Duke (Secaucus, N.J.) and Grande 8-6 victory over Allyson Nariken and Haberbosch. The last doubles match was no different for FDU-Florham as Kim Martin (North Brunswick, N.J.) and Astorino defeated Hanley and Khawam 8-5 in the final match of the afternoon.
FDU-Florham will be back in action on Wednesday, April 8, to take on King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. at 3 p.m.
