MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team picked up a Freedom Conference victory by topping Eastern University 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.
The Devils (5-8, 3-2 Freedom) won five of the six singles matches en route to the win.
Eastern (2-9, 0-5 Freedom) got off to a strong start by winning first doubles but the Devils took control from there.
Amelia Vetto (Portland, Ore.) and
Tenzin Lama (Kearny, N.J.) won 8-4 in second doubles before
Kim Martin (North Brunswick, N.J.) and
Remy Astorino (Fairfield, N.J.) teamed up for an 8-2 win in third doubles.
Playing first singles, freshman
Serina Grande (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) defeated
Laura Thomas 6-4, 6-3. After Eastern's
Kelly Archibald topped Vetto in second singles,
Jill Duke (Secaucus, N.J.) got the Devils back on track by winning 6-4, 6-3 in third singles.
Astorino, Lama and Martin closed out the win by each winning their singles matches. The match between Astorino and
Hannah Reed went to a tiebreaker in both sets but Astorino prevailed 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1).
The Devils will look to keep the momentum going when they compete for third-straight day, tomorrow Sunday April 19 at 3 p.m. against nearby College of Saint Elizabeth.
