MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 victory over Delaware Valley College on Monday afternoon in Freedom Conference action.
The Devils (3-6) prevailed in all three doubles matches over the Aggies (0-8), who are still seeking their first win in their inaugural season.
In first doubles, Nu Kermeni Kermah (Trenton, N.J.) and
Amelia Vetto (Portland, Ore.) set the tone with an 8-1 victory over
Melanie Mayhew and
Jessica Oszvart.
Jill Duke (Secaucus, N.J.) and
Serina Grande (Pompton Lakes., N.J.) followed with an 8-5 second-doubles win and
Kim Martin (North Brunswick, N.J.) teamed up with
Trisha Paul (Morristown, N.J.) to claim an 8-4 third doubles triumph.
Kermah began first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Oszvart but the Aggies responded with a win in second singles when Mayhew topped Vetto in a three-set thriller. After Vetto took the first set 6-2, Mayhew rallied to take the second set 6-2 before closing a third-set battle 11-9.
The Aggies earned a second win when
Natalie Hoffman topped Duke in third singles but the Devils received excellent play in fourth through sixth singles as Grande,
Remy Astorino (Fairfield, N.J.) and Martin each won their respective matches in comfortable fashion.
The Devils return to the court this Thursday, April 2 when they travel to Glenside, Pa. to take on Arcadia University at 2:30 p.m.
