Fourth-Quarter Run Lifts Rams Past Devils

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team was unable to hold off a fourth-quarter surge by the Farmingdale State Rams, ultimately falling 12-8 on Sunday afternoon.

The game was deadlocked at 6-6 in the third quarter before the Rams (5-2) netted six-unanswered goals to grab control and secure the victory.

Farmingdale State led 2-0 after goals by Derrick Sherrod and Michael Cgeielski before David Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) answered for the Devils (2-4) to make it a one-score game.

Trailing 3-1, Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa.) again pulled the Devils within a score by finishing an assist from Stewart with 5:17 to play in the opening have but Farmingdale's Philip
Schaefer
buried two unassisted strikes before the halftime horn, which sent the Rams into the break with a 5-2 advantage.

After the two teams traded scores to begin the second stanza, FDU-Florham rallied with three-straight scores to pull even at 6-6. Freshman midfielder Dan Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.) kicked off the comeback with an unassisted goal before Stewart and Nick Ardolino (Florham Park, N.J.) took advantage of man-up opportunities and tie the game with 7:13 to play in the quarter. Ardolino finished with two goals and a career-best three assists on the day.

Unfortunately for FDU-Florham, they were unable to grasp the lead as the Rams went on to score six-straight goals until Minnich finally ended the drought with 47 seconds to go in regulation.

In the loss, Stewart added three ground balls to his two-goal effort, while Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y.) scored once and assisted on two others.

Schaefer paced the Rams attack with a game-best four goals and also added a helper in the victory.

For the third game in a row, the Devils outshot their opponent as FDU-Florham fired 35 shots to Farmingdale's 28.

The Devils return to action this Wednesday, March 25 when they head to Orangeburg, N.Y. to take on Dominican College at 4 p.m.
