ATLANTA, Ga. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham women's basketball team snapped a modest two-game losing streak with a 65-61 victory over Belhaven University in the opening game of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic hosted by Oglethorpe University on Friday evening.
The Devils (6-3) trailed with 10 minutes to go but outperformed the Blazers (2-6) down the stretch to come away with the victory.
Senior forward
Shalette Brown led the way for the Devils with 20 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. The senior forward also tallied two steals as the Devils forced 20 turnovers in the win.
The Devils received a strong contribution on the defensive end from first-year guard
Raven Dowling, who recorded three thefts in the win, including a crucial steal with 10 seconds to go, which all but sealed the victory. With the Devils leading 64-61, Dowling forced a Blazers' miscue and captured the loose ball before stepping up to the free throw line and clinching the win. The freshman guard finished with a career-high 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting.
Junior guard
Alyssa McDonough returned to action after missing the team's last game due to injury and scored 11 points, while corralling five rebounds and dishing out four assists in the win.
The Devils return to action for the final day of the two-game Classic when they take on the host Stormy Petrels tomorrow at 5 p.m.
