MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham volleyball team came out of the MAC Crossover Tournament with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22) win over Alvernia University and a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon at the Ferguson Recreation Center to improve to 16-4 on the season.
In the first match of the tournament, the Devils dropped the opening set but bounced back to win the next three.
Three Devils recorded a double-double in the win over Alvernia. Freshman Sarah Hof notched a career-high 12 kills and 11 digs while fellow first year player Kristi Wong dished out a game-high 34 assists and tallied 12 digs.
Sophomore Melissa Gaffney also played a big role in the Devils' offensive attack, with a team-high 14 kills.
The second match played in favor of the Devils once again as they managed to sweep the Widener Pride.
Gaffney led the team in kills for the second straight match with 11. Sophomore Codi Inloes-Williams and Wong facilitated the offense by setting up their teammates at an efficient rate. Inloes-Williams had 15 assists, while Wong finished with 16.
Junior Alex Mueller totaled 40 digs in the two games combined.
The Devils will welcome Misericordia University on Tuesday, October 6, for a MAC Freedom showdown that is set to start at 7 p.m.
