PURCHASE, N.Y. – Kim Davis' 18
th goal of the season was the difference as the FDU-Florham field hockey team topped Manhattanville College 1-0 on Tuesday evening at GoValiants.com Field.
With the win, the Devils (13-5, 6-1 MAC Freedom) wrap up conference play and enter next week's MAC Freedom Field Hockey Tournament as the top seed. The Devils will host Wilkes University in the opening round next Wednesday, November 4 with time to be determined. This is the second straight regular season title for the Devils, who also posted a 6-1 record last season in the conference.
The Devils first shot of the game came 4:14 into action when
Alicia Grotyohann sent a shot on cage that was saved by Valiants goalkeeper
Kaitlin Halloran. The Devils fired 10 shots in the first half but were unable to get one past Halloran and the game went into the break scoreless.
In total, the Devils outshot the Valiants 18-5 and limited them to just one shot on target, while also earning a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
After 60 full minutes of scoreless action, Davis broke the tie in the 62
nd minute. Senior midfielder
Stephanie Geskes fired a rocket from the top of the circle and Davis swiftly deflected it past Halloran for the game's decisive goal.
With 18 goals, Davis sits atop the MAC Freedom rankings and is 31
st in Division III in goals scored. Geskes' assist was her sixth of the season, which ties her for the team lead with Davis.
The Devils close out regular season action with the annual senior night this Thursday, October 29 against Montclair State University at 7 p.m.
