MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham women's tennis team coasted to a 9-0 victory against Rutgers University-Newark (1-10) on Friday afternoon at the Florham Campus Tennis Courts.
The Devils (3-0) earned a clean sweep on the day by taking all six singles matches and the three doubles contests. Freshman
Allyson Wolff set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in first singles.
After
Remy Astorino (6-4, 6-0) and
Serina Grande (6-2, 6-0) each won their singles matches, the toughest battle of the day took place in the fourth singles flight between FDU-Florham's
Jill Duke and Rutgers-Newark's
Jamie Lee Buhain. Duke won the first set 6-3 before Buhain rallied to come away with a 6-4 win in the second frame. The battle culminated with Duke coming out on top in the decisive third set in a 10-7 tiebreaker.
In doubles action
Amelia Vetto and
Pamela Russo teamed up to claim first singles in what was the most tightly contested match at 8-6.
Serina Grande and
Jill Duke won second doubles 8-3, then Kaylee Diaz and
Amy Slobodzian rolled to an 8-2 victory in third doubles.
With the win, the Devils conclude the fall portion of their season unbeaten and will not return to action until February 27 against cross-street rival Drew University.
