No. 1 Devils Set School Record for 3-pointers in 108-64 Victory

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The No.1-ranked FDU-Florham women's basketball team set a new school record with 18 made 3-pointers and capped off their weekend at the NYU Holiday Classic with a 108-64 victory over Swarthmore College on Sunday night at the Coles Sports Center.

Senior guard Kara Dayon (Trenton, N.J.) had an outstanding night and led the Devils (12-0) to victory with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals as FDU-Florham extended its winning streak to 45 games.

The 108 points scored by FDU-Florham broke the NYU Holiday Classic record for most points in a game (93), which was previously held by the host Violets. In addition to the points scored and 3-point field goal records, the Devils also set the classic's records for points in a half (64), which they previously set in the win against William Smith last night, and made field goals (38).

Following a layup by Swarthmore's Jordyn Bell, the Devils rattled off 13-straight points to stake a 13-2 lead 3:05 into play. Dayon scored seven points, grabbed a steal and assisted on a jumper by sister Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J.) during the early spurt.

The Devils maintained that cushion for most of the stanza before stretching their lead to as large as 24 points on freshman guard Danielle Leguillou's (Staten Island, N.Y.) layup with 1:43 to play in the half. Kara Dayon netted 12 points along with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block, while Leguillou totaled nine points and the top-ranked team led 44-25 at the break.

After knocking down five treys in the first half, the Devils caught fire in the second stanza and drained 13 of their 22 attempts from downtown. Fresh off of setting the school's all-time mark last night, senior guard Leigh-Ann Lively (Bangor, Pa.) buried four 3-pointers in the second half, while freshman guard Sydney Clopton (Baltimore, Md.) made three, as the Devils enhanced their lead to 70-40 with 13:26 to go.

In addition to the hot-shooting, the Devils defense excelled and forced the Garnet (3-7) to commit 33 turnovers. Lively was the leading culprit with four steals and eight different Devils tallied thefts on the night.

With 3:45 to play in regulation, a 3-ball by Lively allowed the Devils to eclipse the 100-point mark as the team finished with the third most points in program history. Lively scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half and sunk 6-of-12 from behind the arc. As a team, FDU-Florham buried a season-best 48.6 percent of their 3-point attempts.

Sophomore guard Alyssa McDonough (Parlin, N.J.) finished with 12 points, while Leguillou and Clopton each added 11 tallies in the win.

For the Garnet, Jessica Jowdy scored a game-high 21 points, and Elle Larsen netted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
