Box Score MADISON, N.J. -- The 11th-ranked The College of New Jersey Lions field hockey team's offense roared on Saturday afternoon in an 8-0 victory over the FDU-Florham Devils at Robert T. Shields Field.
It was a tough afternoon for the Devils (2-1), who squared off against the Lions' (3-0) high-powered attack and well-disciplined defense. TCNJ senior
Erin Healy found the back of the cage in the 11th minute, which began the scoring for the Lions. Less than one minute later, the Lions struck again and never looked back, tacking on four more goals in the half.
The Lions defense showed why they are nationally ranked by preventing the Devils from recording a single shot on net in the contest. For the Devils, the defense played valiantly, as junior goalkeeper
Amy Defnet (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) warded off eight shots, which gives her 18 stops in two games this season. Sophomore
Erin O'Connell (Linwood, N.J./Mainland) played an excellent game on the backline and recorded three defensive saves to limit the Lions from adding on to their lead.
