MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham women's volleyball team captured their first Freedom Conference win and claimed their eighth straight victory at home when they took down the Wilkes University Colonels 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 25-14) on Tuesday night at the Fergusen Recreation Center.
The Devils (12-9, 1-1 Freedom) have now won four straight and improved to 8-0 at home on the year. After a successful weekend where the Devils picked up three wins, they kept up their offensive attack and took the first two sets over the Colonels 25-19.
In the third set, the Devils were down early and were unable to mount a comeback against Wilkes (6-7, 0-2 Freedom), falling to the Colonels 18-25. However, in the fourth set, the Devils bounced back and regained their composure to win by their largest margin of the night, 25-14.
It was a memorable night for freshmen
Codi Inloes-Williams (Palmer Lake, Colo./Liberty) and
Melissa Gaffney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) who provided with Devils' offense with a lot of fire power. Inloes-Williams set a career-high with 42 assists while Gaffney finished the night with a career-high 22 kills. Gaffney also excelled on the defensive end with 14 digs across the four-set victory.
Next up for the Devils:The Devils look to stay hot as they head to the York Tournament in York, Pa. Their first match is against Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday, September 26 at 5 p.m.
