MADISON, N.J. -- The FDU-Florham volleyball team dropped two matches in day one of the York College Spartan Invitational on Friday at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
The Devils (12-11) fell 3-0 to Virginia Wesleyan College (23-25, 24-26, 18-25) before also being swept by Stevenson University (15-25, 20-25, 15-25).
Match One:The Devils battled and played two extremely close sets against the Marlins (11-4) but were unable to come out on top. FDU-Florham could not slow down Virginia Wesleyan's
Tiffany Barrett who totaled 15 kills on 29 total attacks. In the loss, freshman
Melissa Gaffney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) extended her double-digit kill streak to seven matches with 11 put aways but it was not enough for the Devils.

Natalie Knudsen (Chester, N.J./Mendham) tallied eight kills, while setter
Codi Inloes-Williams (Palmer Lake, Colo./Liberty) added 23 assists for the Devils.
Match Two:FDU-Florham squared off against MAC-Commonwealth's Stevenson University. The Devils were unable to get it going against the Mustangs, dropping all three sets, two of which by double-digits. Sophomore
Alex Barnett (Winchester, Va./Handley) paced the Devils attack with eight kills, while Gaffney added six kills and 13 digs to the ledger.
Next up for the Devlis: FDU-Florham will look to get in the win column when they face off against Albright College and Penn State Abington on Saturday in day two of the tournament.
