Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The FDU-Florham men's soccer team began the season with a flurry of goals, en route to an 8-0 victory over Berkeley College (N.Y.) at Aviator Sports and Events Center on Friday night.
The Devils (1-0) dominated from the outset, as senior captain
Tommy Asselta (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) opened the scoring just 3:57 into action. Asselta's blast came from approximately 20-yards out and kicked off an offensive barrage for FDU-Florham. The Knights (0-1) kept the game close for the next 30 minutes before sophomore
Robby Bonjione (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) netted his second goal in as many contests against Berkeley, which put the Devils in front 2-0. Two minutes later, Asselta struck for his second goal of the night and FDU-Florham assumed control at 3-0.Â
Senior
Igor Petrovic (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) found the back of the net just before halftime and sent the Devils into intermission with a four-goal advantage. In the second half, FDU-Florham remained in the driver's seat, as sophomore
Gio Aiello (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) fired home an assist from
AJ Carnevale (Princeton Junction, N.J/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) and
Justin Barbosa (Clark, N.J./Johnson Regional) 39 seconds into the stanza.Â
FDU-Florham tacked on three more tallies as freshmen
Brian Chiarello (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) and
Brandon DeOliveira (Cranford, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) notched their first collegiate goals and Petrovic picked up his second of the game. The Devils outshot the Knights 18-5 on the night and sophomore goalkeeper
Nick Mihalik (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) needed to only make one save to earn the victory.
Next up for the Devils:FDU-Florham will begin the home slate of their schedule when they host Ramapo College this Wednesday, September 3rd at 7 p.m.
