Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The sixth-ranked FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team improved to 23-0 on the season, defeating DeSales University 87-57 on Saturday at Billera Hall.
Sophomore forward
Shalette Brown (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) paved the way for FDU-Florham (23-0,12-0 Freedom) with a game-high 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while point guard
Jalessa Lewis (Irvington, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) added 15 points and handed out eight assists in the win.
The Devils are responsible for two of the Bulldogs' (18-5, 8-4 Freedom) five losses this season and with the win snap DeSales five-game winning streak.
The Bulldogs were sharp to begin the game and held a five-point lead (11-6) five minutes into play. The Devils offense sprung to life with a 20-4 run over the next six minutes to claim a 25-15 advantage.
With FDU-Florham leading 30-21,
Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) and
Kara Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) teamed up for a 10-0 run to increase the Devils lead to 19 points. First, Kyra drilled a jumper in the lane, then Kara converted a fast break lay-up, and finally the sisters each knocked down a three-pointer to cap the run.The Devils held a 48-24 advantage at intermission and
Kyra Dayon led all scorers with 12 points at the break. FDU-Florham shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening stanza including 5-of-12 from long range.
With 13:32 to go in the contest, freshman guard
Alyssa McDonough's (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville) lay-in gave the Devils a 26-point lead at 59-33, however, the Bulldogs were unwilling to go down without a fight. DeSales used a 13-3 run to cut the lead in half with 9:17 to play in regulation. After a timeout by FDU-Florham coach
Marc Mitchell, the Devils regained control and scored 21 of the game's final 25 points to earn the 87-57 victory.

Alexiah Grant led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while
Morgan McCollian chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds in defeat.
In total, four Devils tallied double-digit scoring efforts with
Kyra Dayon posting 12 points and six rebounds and
Leigh-Ann Lively (Bangor, Pa./Notre Dame) adding 11 points to join Brown and Lewis. FDU-Florham won the game but lost the turnover battle for the first time this season by committing 20 turnovers to DeSales' 18 in the contest. On the afternoon, the Devils shot 52.9 percent from the floor and held a 39-23 advantage on the glass.
