Davis Strikes Again as Devils Blank Lady Monarchs 2-0

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Led by sophomore Kim Davis' (Long Branch, N.J.) three points, the FDU-Florham field hockey team earned a crucial Freedom Conference victory on Friday, blanking King's College 2-0 at McCarthy Stadium.

With the win, the Devils (7-6, 2-1 Freedom) move ahead of King's (6-7, 1-2 Freedom) in the conference standings and into sole possession of third place.

The Lady Monarchs edged the Devils 14-12 on penalty corners, however, FDU-Florham nearly doubled King's in shot attempts 13-7.

After a quiet first ten minutes of action, Davis made the most out of the game's first shot attempt by firing the game's decisive goal past King's goalkeeper Paige Tedik at the 11:45 mark.

Davis continues to shine in her second season with the Devils and has now scored a goal in each of the team's last three games. The sophomore currently leads the team with eight goals on the campaign.

FDU-Florham's defense limited the Lady Monarchs to just one shot attempt over the first 35 minutes of action and the Devils held the 1-0 advantage at the break.

The Devils came out blazing in the second stanza and earned six penalty corners in the first five minutes of the half. In the 40th minute, senior Katelin Leibner (Jackson, N.J.) capped the five-minute barrage with a great scoring chance but Haley Waslasky kept King's within one by making a defensive save on the shot.

In the 51st minute, King's had their best scoring opportunity of the afternoon, but the Devils backline stood tall thwarting three penalty corners and turning away three shot attempts. FDU-Florham goalkeeper Samantha Klimaszewski (Green Village, N.J.) made two of her four saves in the game during that high-pressured stretch.

With seven minutes to play, the Devils used a penalty corner to create a scoring chance. Davis found freshman Jodie Crutchley (Ewing, N.J.) in front of the cage and the first-year forward delivered, which gave FDU-Florham a 2-0 lead.

Crutchley's goal was her fifth of the season and third in the Devils last three games. The freshman currently ranks second on the team in goals scored and third in points through 13 games this season.
