No. 10 Devils Fight Off Valiants for 78-64 Victory

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The 10th ranked FDU-Florham Devils women's basketball team remained undefeated by fending off Manhattanville College 78-64 on Wednesday night in Freedom Conference action.

Junior guard Kara Dayon (Trenton,N.J./Trenton Central) knocked down six three-pointers and tallied 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead the Devils in the win.  Dayon thwarted several Valiant rallies with her timely three-point shooting.

Manhattanville (4-9, 0-3 MAC) made the Devils work hard for this win and even held a one-point lead with 15 minutes to play before FDU ultimately prevailed. Valiants junior guard Bri Pabon finished with a team-high 19 points and three assists in the loss.

With the Devils leading 34-18, the Valiants posted a 14-4 run to close the opening stanza. The Devils led by as many as 16 points in the period, but entered the break with only a six-point advantage (38-32). Manhattanville's junior center Alyson Caiazzo hauled in nine first-half rebounds and finished the contest with a game-high 14.

The Valiants' momentum continued into the second half and Alyson Chase's layup with 15:35 to play in regulation gave Manhattanville their first lead of the game at 42-41. After a full-timeout by FDU-Florham coach Marc Mitchell, Dayon knocked down a long three-pointer to regain the lead for the Devils. FDU never trailed again and built their lead to 21-points before ultimately completing the victory.

Devils junior forward Delisha Thompson (East Orange, N.J./East Orange Campus) finished with a season-high 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the win. FDU totaled 22 steals in the contest, led by Kyra Dayon (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) who nabbed five thefts on the night.

Next up for the Devils:
FDU continues Freedom Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they take on Misericordia University at Ferguson Recreation Center with tip scheduled for 1 p.m.
