Box Score Hackettstown, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's soccer team exploded for six second half goals, en route to a 9-2 toppling of the Centenary College Cyclones on Wednesday night.
Leading a cast of Devils scorers, freshman
Andrew Ruane (Parsippany, N.J.) and junior
Igor Petrovic (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) both totaled two goals on the night. In all, seven different Devils found the back of the net, as the team picked up its seventh win of the season and its second straight victory.
FDU struck first when Ruane drove home a penalty kick in the 13
th minute, giving the Devils a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, the freshman defender headed in a free-kick from team captain
Tommy Asselta (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), for his second score of the day, providing the Devils with a 2-nil lead.
Twenty-six minutes into play, the Devils found themselves on top 3-0 courtesy of Petrovic's first strike, which was assisted by
Chaz Armand (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) and Asselta.
Centenary answered back with two goals of their own before half, bringing them within one at intermission.
The Devils countered with six unanswered goals, bookended by Asselta and team scoring leader,
Ryan Hurdes (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury), resulting in the 9-2 final.
Also adding goals in the victory were
Dylan Meyler (Somerdale, N.J.),
Luke Devine (Eldersburg, MD) and
Jonathan Trujillo (Dover, N.J./Dover).
