Box Score Madison, N.J. -- The FDU College at Florham Devils (3-2-1) men's soccer team came within 19 seconds of their fourth victory on Saturday afternoon against a resilient Richard Stockton College Osprey (4-1-1) team but in the end were forced to settle for a 5-5 tie.
The Devils offense was in full gear on Saturday, as FDU led 2-1 at the half courtesy of goals from
Connor McIntyre and
Ryan Hurdes. McIntyre's goal was his first of the season and put the Devils ahead 1-0.
Hurdes, the Devils team leader in goals, tacked on his seventh goal of the season, giving the team a 3-2 advantage 53 minutes into play. A takedown in the box resulted in a penalty kick for Osprey forward Pat Rafferty which he converted, evening the contest at three goals aside.
Devils freshman midfielder
Dylan Meyler turned and fired a rocket home providing FDU at 4-3 advantage, which was then increased in the 74th minute by captain
Tommy Asselta's direct kick into the back of the net.
Now leading 5-3 the Devils could taste victory but the resilience of the Ospreys proved up-to-task, as they managed to find two more goals, the latter a rebound off the crossbar tying the game with just 19 seconds to play.
Overtime was quiet for both sides, with Stockton managing to generate the only scoring chances, eventually resulting in the final tie.
Hurdes has now scored in four straight games for the Devils.
Next up for the Devils:
This Thursday, September 18th, FDU will take on TCNJ on the grass field with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
