#22 Devils Tripped Up By Delaware Valley, 69-67

Box Score MADISON, NJ - Trailing by a score of 50-34 with 14:28 remaining in the game, the #22 College at Florham Devils went on a 30-9 run over the next ten minutes to take a 64-59 lead but Delaware Valley closed the game on a 10-3 run to earn a 69-67 victory in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 22-3 (12-2 Freedom) while the Aggies improved to 11-14 (5-9 Freedom).  The Devils will still be the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.

Delaware Valley got off to a great start, opening up a 23-13 lead with 6:26 left in the first half.  After FDU closed to within five, 25-20, with 5:06 to go, the Aggies finished the half on a 15-10 run to take a 40-30 lead into intermission.

The Aggies started the second stanza strong as well, taking a 50-34 advantage with 14:28 remaining.  That's when the Devils and specifically sophomore forward Kyra Dayon took over.  FDU erupted for a 30-9 run to grab a 64-59 lead with 4:07 to play thanks to 17 points from Dayon.  Delaware Valley didn't roll over though, trimming their deficit to 66-65 with 2:01 remaining before a free throw from FDU made it 67-65.  The Aggies tied the game with 1:28 to go but neither team could score after that and the Devils had possession with 0:10 left.  FDU got a wide-open look at a layup but missed and the Aggies pushed the ball ahead, drawing a foul from 0:03 remaining.  DVC sank both and a halfcourt heave at the buzzer from FDU missed allowing Delaware Valley to end their season on a high note.

Dayon finished the game with 25 points and seven rebounds while freshman center Rachel Groom added 18 points and five boards.  Despite the loss, the Devils finished the regular season with the best record in school history, the most wins in school history, their best record in conference play, and won the Freedom Conference Regular Season for the first time in school history.

The top-seeded Devils return to action on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at home in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament against fourth-seeded Eastern beginning at 7 pm.
