Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils men's basketball team dropped their Freedom Conference opener on Wednesday night 78-62 to DeSales University at the Ferguson Recreation Center. The Bulldogs (4-2, 1-0 MAC) shot 48.1 percent from the floor and led most of the way en route to the double-digit victory.
John Flete (Flemington, N.J./North Hampton CC) led the Devils offensively with 19 points and two steals, while
Kevin Furlong (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) chipped in 13 points and eight boards in the loss.
Furlong's first three-pointer of the night gave the Devils (3-4, 0-1 MAC) an early 7-0 advantage, but the Bulldogs came storming back with a 13-3 run to capture the lead. DeSales entered the halftime break with 37-24 advantage, thanks to the hot-shooting of Paul Pammer. Pammer finished the first stanza 4-for-5 from the floor with 12 points.
With 5:57 left to play in regulation, a long-ball from Bulldog sophomore forward Ryan Furst provided DeSales with their largest lead of the night at 28 points, a lead they would not relinquish. The Devils fought back cutting the lead to 12 but they ultimately could not overcome the large deficit.
Pammer led the way for the Bulldogs with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while fellow senior Andrew Kohler added a career-high of 15 points. FDU-Florham shot 28.8 percent from the floor and 6-for-23 (26.1%) from downtown in defeat.
