Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – FDU-Florham punched in two late goals to pick up a 4-2 Freedom Conference victory over the DeSales University men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Chaz Armand (Atlanta, GA/Westlake) and senior
Ryan Hurdes (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) accounted for the Devils scoring, with two goals apiece on the afternoon.
The Devils (8-5-1) scored the crucial go ahead goal when Hurdes beat the Bulldog's goalkeeper after receiving a long pass from junior
Igor Petrovic (Clifton, N.J./Clifton). Hurdes tallied his 17
th goal of the season which ranks him third in all of Division III soccer.
DeSales began the scoring when Issac Mohr finished on a free kick just 30 seconds into play.
The Devils tied the game at one in the 28
th minute, when Hurdes scored the first of two goals on the day with a free kick. FDU capitalized on the momentum with a score during the 34
th minute to give the Devils their first lead of the afternoon.
The Bulldogs were able to tie the game at two when Wes Frebal beat Devils freshman goalkeeper Nick Mahalik (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) in the 60
th minute.
The game remained knotted up at two until the 80
th minute, when Petrovic sent a flawless pass to Hurdes who soared through the defense and fired a shot past Bulldog goalie Colin Sulpizio.
Armand capped the scoring with his fifth goal of the season to double up the Bulldogs 4-2.
In the victory, Petrovic picked up two important assists, giving him a team-high seven on the season.
FDU finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots. Each team was able to obtain four corner kicks during the contest.
