Kara Dayon came off the bench for 11 points to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 66-59 victory over Misericordia in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 14-1 (4-0 Freedom) while the Cougars dropped to 7-5 (3-1 Freedom).
The Devils held a slim one-point margin, 12-11, with 10:42 to go in the first when they went on a quick 7-0 run to take a 19-11 lead two minutes later. Misericordia responded with a 12-4 run to tie the game at 23-23 with 2:38 remaining and the game was tied at 25-25 with 0:59 to go. DeHaas hit a jumper with 0:28 left but the Cougars tied the game entering halftime by getting a bucket with 0:10 to play.
The Cougars came out hot to start the second half, opening up a 37-31 lead just 4:27 in. FDU cut their deficit to one, 43-42, with 12:34 to go and Thompson put the Devils back on top with a jumper 0:30 later. The two squads went back-and-forth from that point on with the game being tied at 53-53 with 4:47 to go. The Devils then took over down the stretch, ripping off a 9-0 run to grab a 62-53 with 1:08 remaining. Thompson got the Devils started on the run before DeHaas scored two straight baskets to put FDU up, 59-53, while FDU finished the run with their final three points from the free throw line. The Cougars cut it to five, 62-57, with 0:33 to play but
Kara Dayon and DeHaas went 4-for-4 from the line to seal the 66-59 win.
DeHaas and
Kara Dayon were the difference in the game as the pair totaled 25 points and helped the FDU bench to a 25-14 advantage over the Misericordia bench.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at home against Eastern beginning at 6 pm.
