Box Score PURCHASE, NY - Junior forward
Ryan Hurdes scored two second half goals to lead the fourth-seeded College at Florham Devils to a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Manhattanville on Friday afternoon in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament. It was just a normal upset though, as the Devils hadn't even touched a soccer ball since last Saturday afternoon because of Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath.
With the win, the Devils improved to 10-10 and will go on to play second-seeded in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals on Sunday afternoon. Manhattanville dropped to 8-7-4 with the loss.
The Valiants got on the board quickly, jumping out to a 1-0 just 3:26 into the contest. Manhattanville kept that lead throughout the remainder of the first half until Hurdes tied the game at 1-1 with 1:29 gone by in the second half off of passes from senior defender
Sean Mosser and freshman midfielder
AJ Carnevale. The game went back-and-forth after that until the 86th minute when Hurdes provided the heroics by burying a shot into the right corner of the goal to send FDU to the finals.
Senior goalkeeper
Tim Kirk was phenominal in the win, making 10 saves in net.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, November 4, 2012, in the Freedom Conference Tournament Finals at second-seeded Misericordia beginning at 2:30 pm.
