Box Score MADISON, NJ - With the fourth and final spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament on the line, the College at Florham Devils beat DeSales by a score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The fourth-seeded Devils will travel to play top-seeded Manhattanville in the Semifinals on Tuesday.
With the win, the Devils improved to 9-10 (4-3 Freedom) while the Bulldogs dropped to 9-6-3 (3-3-1 Freedom). Had DeSales won the game they would have been the fourth seed and FDU's season would have ended.
The Devils started the scoring just 9:39 into the game when freshman forward
Chaz Armand knocked in a pass from senior midfielder
Emin Matezic. FDU grabbed a 2-0 edge seven minutes later as freshman midfielder
AJ Carnevale converted a pass from Armand. The Devils tacked on another goal ten minutes before intermission when senior midfielder
Josh Corpuz found the back of the net off a feed from Carnevale.
At that point it looked like the Devils would cruise to victory but DeSales kept fighting for their postseason life and cut their deficit to 3-1 at the 62:08 mark. The Bulldogs then made it 3-2 in the 73rd minute but FDU sealed the win with an insurance goal as junior forward
Ryan Hurdes put a bow on things when he drilled home a pass from junior midfielder
Pierre Mengara.
Senior goalkeeper
Tim Kirk picked up the win on Senior Day, making four saves.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in the Semifinals of the Freedom Conference Tournament at top-seeded Manhattanville beginning at a time to be announced.
