Box Score DALLAS, PA - Down 71-69 with 0:11 remaining, the College at Florham Devils got two shots at the basket from inside five feet that would have tied the game but they didn't go down as FDU lost to Misericordia in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils dropped to 9-10 (3-5 Freedom) while the Cougars improved to 10-8 (6-2 Freedom).
Misericordia jumped out to a 22-17 lead with 8:56 to go in the first half but the Devils responded with a 14-8 run to grab a 31-30 lead with 4:10 to go thanks to five points from sophomore forward
Brianna Nicholls. FDU held their one-point lead, 34-33, with 2:10 remaining but the Cougars scored the final three points of the half to take a 36-34 lead into intermission.
With the score tied at 44-44 and 5:26 gone by in the second half, Misericordia scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 52-46 advantage with 11:13 to go. The Devils came right back though, ripping off a 15-7 run to grab a 61-59 lead with 3:55 remaining thanks to five points from junior guard
Tasza Carter. The Cougars tied the game at 63-63 with 3:10 to play and took a four-point lead, 71-67, with 1:10 to go. Carter made it 71-69 with an 1:00 left on the clock and the Devils had a chance to tie the game with 0:17 left but FDU missed two free throws allowing Misericordia to keep the lead. FDU was then forced to foul but the Cougars returned the favor and missed both free throws to give the Devils a final chance to force overtime. The Devils came down and got the ball into the lane but the two short shots went begging, allowing Misericordia to escape with the win.
Carter finished with a team-high 21 points, freshman forward
Kyra Dayon tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, and Nicholls poured in 13 points.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Manhattanville beginning at 6 pm.
