Four players scored in double digits, led by junior guard Adam Katz, freshman forward Will Green, and senior center Ricky Fetske, who all had 13 points, to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 70-66 win over TCNJ in non-conference action on Monday evening.
With the win, the Devils improved 3-8 while the Lions dropped to 3-9.
The two squads opened up the game even as it was 11-11 after 5:30 of action. TCNJ then raced out to a 20-13 lead and after the Devils cut it to 20-16, the Lions went on an 8-3 run to take a 28-19 advantage with 7:16 left in the first half. The Devils responded right away with a run of their own, a 12-2 spurt to grab a 31-30 lead with 1:39 to go thanks to four points apiece from sophomore forward Derek Hall and Green. TCNJ got a bucket on their last possession of the half to take a 32-31 lead but FDU knocked in a free throw to tie the game at 32-32 heading into intermission.
FDU continued its strong play to begin the second half, going on a 15-4 run to take a 47-36 lead with 12:01 left in the game thanks to six points from freshman guard Trevor Sykes. The Devils held a 52-42 advantage when the Lions ripped off an 18-8 run to tie the game at 60-60 with 3:02 to go. TCNJ actually took the lead, 64-63, with 2:05 left but in a battle of foul shots down the stretch, the Devils hit theirs to grab the hard-earned victory. FDU actually scored 18 of their last 20 points from the line while the Lions last field goal was with 2:29 remaining.
Sykes finished the game with 12 points off the bench while Fetske also added nine rebounds. Green ripped down eight boards and Hall tallied eight points and nine rebounds.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at home against King's beginning at 3 pm.
