NEW YORK, NY - The College at Florham Devils beat the US Coast Guard, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 26-24), SUNY Brockport, 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 25-7), and NYU-Poly, 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16), on the first day of the NYU Tournament on Friday evening.
With the sweep, the Devils improved to 4-1.
COAST GUARD - Senior middle hitter
Lauren Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) led FDU with 14 kills and four blocks while freshman middle hitter
Helena Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) and sophomore outside hitter
Chelsea Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Hoeffler also added 17 digs. Senior setter
Kerry Kuperman (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) notched 28 assists, sophomore setter
Nicole Weissert (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) tallied 15 assists, and junior libero
Marta Matera (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had 25 digs.
BROCKPORT - Riede paced the Devils in the second match with 10 kills while Kuperman finished with 16 assists. Matera recorded 16 digs, Weissert had 10 assists, and Brazier and freshman right side
Jenna Cowie (Longmont, CO/Longmont) each had seven kills.
POLY - Brazier finished the night with nine kills and five blocks while Matera had 17 digs. Kuperman and Weisster tallied 13 and 10 assists, respectively, while senior defensive specialist
Marcie Schlanger (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) notched 11 digs.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 4, 2010, for the second day of the NYU Tournament against SUNY Geneseo at 2 pm and against NYU beginning at 4 pm.
