HOBOKEN, NJ - The College at Florham Devils beat Swarthmore, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19), and Oneonta, 3-1 (27-29, 26-24, 25-21, 25-23), to win the Stevens Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
With the sweep, the Devils improved to 12-4 on the season. Senior middle hitter
Lauren Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) and sophomore outside hitter
Chelsea Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
SWARTHMORE - Freshman middle hitter
Helena Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) paced FDU with 11 kills while Brazier had five kills and seven blocks. Hoeffler added eight kills and 10 digs, senior setter
Kerry Kuperman (Scottsdale, AZ/Chaparral) recorded 18 assists and seven digs, sophomore setter
Nicole Weissert (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) finished with 15 assists and seven digs, and junior libero
Marta Matera (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) tallied 16 digs.
ONEONTA - After losing the first game, the Devils rallied back to win thanks to 12 kills and four blocks from Brazier. Riede chipped in 15 kills while Hoeffler notched 10 kills and 21 digs. Kuperman tallied 26 assists and 10 digs, Weissert finished with 18 assists and 15 digs, Matera added 20 digs and senior defender
Rachel Highley (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) had 15 digs.
The Devils return to action on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Misericordia beginning at 7 pm.
