NEW YORK, NY - Senior forward
Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) scored a career-high 38 points, 26 of those coming in the second half, to go along with 11 rebounds to lead the College at Florham Devils to an 82-75 win over Brooklyn in the Consolation Game of the NYU New Year's Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 7-5. Michlovsky was named All-Tournament team and tied two NYU gym records, most points in a game and most points in a half.
It was a back-and-forth affair for the entire first half as neither team held more than a three-point lead. The Devils trailed 29-26 with 2:13 remaining before scoring the final four points of the half, all from the foul line, to take a 30-29 advantage into intermission.
FDU exploded to start the second half, going on a 24-8 run to begin the second stanza on their way to a 54-37 lead with 9:39 left in the game. Michlovsky had 12 points for the Devils during the run. The Devils increased their lead to 19 points, 61-42, with 6:27 to go but Brooklyn didn't quit as they methodically chipped away at the deficit and pulled to within three points, 73-70, with 1:16 to go. FDU turned it back on though and iced the game from the charity stripe to earn the win.
Junior forward
Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Middletown South) was the only other Devil in double figures as she tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore forward
Matil Mangual (Westbury, NY/Clarke) had eight points and eight boards off the bench.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at King's beginning at 1 pm.
