JERSEY CITY, NJ - The College at Florham Devils rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit, 36-23, to knock off New Jersey City by a score of 69-64 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Devils evened their record at 3-3.
The two teams played to a 9-9 tie halfway through the first half before the Devils were able to carve out a 20-16 advantage with 4:39 to go. That's when the Gothic Knights exploded though, ending the half on a 20-3 run to take a 36-23 lead into the locker rooms.
The Devils dug deep to begin the second stanza as they immediately ripped off a 16-2 run thanks to four points apiece from senior forward
Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), junior forward
Shealyn Taggart (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Middletown South) and sophomore forwards
Meghan Lentine (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and
Matil Mangual (Westbury, NY/Clark). The Devils took a six-point lead, 58-52, with 3:17 to go but the Gothic Knights battled back to tie it at 58-58 with just 2:03 to play. The Devils never made another field goal but went 11-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Michlovsky finished with 22 points and nine rebounds while Lentine added 12 points and 10 boards. Taggart chipped in 13 points, Mangual had nine points and seven boards, and senior guard
Courtney Young (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had nine assists and seven boards.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, November 29, 2009, with their home opener against William Paterson beginning at 2 pm.
