MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team celebrated their senior day as they took on Stevens in the final conference doubleheader of the season Sunday afternoon.
Game One:
Devils Highlights
- Junior John Rolli led the charge in Game One, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
- Sophomore Xavier Diaz had a good first game, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
- First year Christian Zamrok also had a good Game One, going 1-for-2 with a run scored.
How It Happened
- After falling into a quick 3-0 deficit, the Devils bounced back in the bottom of the first inning. Diaz started the offense off with a single to right field, while sophomore Matthew Bond drove him in with a fielder's choice to third base to make it a 3-1 game.
- The last scoring opportunity that the team had was in the seventh inning. Following three consecutive hit-by-pitches, junior Anthony DiChiara worked a full count walk to score junior Derek Wenskowski and bring the game to 13-2. Rolli continued to cut the deficit down to 13-3 with an RBI ground out to second base.
Game Two:
Devils Highlights
- Sophomore Xavier Diaz continued his hot day, going 2-for-4 with a homerun, an RBI and a run scored.
- Senior Ryan Johnston had a great Game Two, going 2-for-4 with a double.
- Junior John Rolli added to the offense for Game Two, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
- Junior Trenon Stanard kept the Devils in the game, throwing four innings out of the pen while giving up two runs on no hits.
How It Happened
- The Devils continued their trend of scoring in the first inning. After a leadoff hit-by-pitch from Rolli, he took advantage of a costly error from the Ducks catcher to score from second and cut the deficit down to 2-1.
- After letting the lead extend to 4-1, the team responded back in the bottom of the fifth inning. In a 3-1 count, Diaz launched a monster homerun to dead center to cut down the lead to 4-2. Unfortunately, the Devils' bats would go cold after this inning and the Ducks would go onto win 5-2.
Game Notes
- Six players recorded hits today, with two players recording a multi-hit game.
