HOBOKEN, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team can't quite complete the comeback as they drop game one against the Ducks Friday night.
Devils Highlights
- Junior Peter Longo led the Devils in the series opener, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.
- Senior Nicholas Colbert had a great return to the starting lineup, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.
- First year Andrew Parisi continued his solid end to the season, going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, three RBI and one run scored.
- Senior Ryan Johnston also had a successful day, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored.
How It Happened
- After falling into a 3-0 deficit, the Devils tied the game up in the top of the fourth inning. A leadoff walk from sophomore Xavier Diaz was all it took to get the offense going. Longo followed Diaz with a single to third base, which gave Parisi the perfect opportunity to deliver a three-run home to right field and tie the game at 3-3.
- The Ducks answered back with a two-run homerun of their own, giving them a 5-3 lead going into the second half of the game. In the top of the fifth inning, an error by Stevens' third baseman allowed senior Parker Muratore to score on an RBI single to left from Longo. While the team was able to cut the lead to 5-4, the Ducks answered back with yet another two-run homerun to right field and reestablish a three-run lead.
- Unfortunately, the team couldn't stop the bleeding in the bottom of the sixth inning and fell into a 15-4 deficit. In the top of the seventh, the Devils mounted a comeback of their own to bring the score to 15-8. RBI from Longo, Johnston and Colbert gave the offense their last scoring opportunity of the night before the Ducks sealed the deal in the top of the ninth inning.
Game Notes
- Eight players recorded a hit in today's loss, with three players having a multi-hit game.
- Despite the loss, sophomore Tyler Gaetano and first year CJ Bates were lights out in the eighth and ninth innings as they combined for two scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out four.
