MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham softball team topped Madison Ave neighbor Saint Elizabeth University 3-0 in Game 1 of its non-conference doubleheader before finishing in a 10-10 tie in Game 2 due to darkness Tuesday afternoon on the road.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 1)
- Jada Lambright went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
- Giulia Olear also went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Giana Abinanti got the start and went 3 and 1/3 innings as she allowed no runs on just five hits with two strikeouts.
- Sydney Grifone came on in relief and earned the win as she tossed 3 and 2/3 scoreless innings with zero hits allowed and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game 1 was scoreless up until the top of the sixth when Lambright doubled home Olear to give FDU a 1-0 lead.
- Two batters later, back-to-back fielding errors by the Eagles led to both Riley Signor and Lambright scoring, extending the FDU lead to 3-0.
- Pitching with a lead now, Grifone threw back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to give FDU the 3-0 shutout.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS (Game 2)
- Lambright continued her stellar day with a 4-for-4 performance in Game 2 with three RBI and three runs scored.
- Wodecki went 2-for-3 with an RBI
- Mollie Reece went 2-for-5 with two runs scored
- Grifone tossed four innings in relief and struck out eight batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lambright put FDU on top 1-0 with an RBI-single followed by an RBI-single form Kylie Berg to extend the Devils lead to 2-0.
- Saint E's knotted the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the first and then took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second.
- The Devils answered in the third with an RBI-single from Wodecki to cut it to a 4-3 deficit, but in the home half, a two-run single from Rylee Sullivan put the Eagles ahead 6-3 after three innings.
- In the fourth, FDU added two runs on a Lambright single followed by a Riley Signor sac fly, but one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth, put the Eagles up 9-5.
- FDU did not go quietly as the Devils stormed back with a four-run top of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead. Then in the bottom half, Saint Elizabeth's Jadyn Barker tripled home Sullivan to knot the game at 10 apiece.
- Due to darkness, the game was called after six innings and was finalized as a tie.
GAME NOTES
- This is FDU's first tie game this season and first since the 2019 season when the Devils finished in a 2-2 tie against Mount Saint Mary College.
- In her Game 2 outing, Grifone notched her 100th career strikeout.

The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 23 as FDU heads to Bethlehem, Pa. for a doubleheader against the Moravian University Greyhounds. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
