GALLOWAY, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team lose a close game to the Ospreys in the 13
th inning Tuesday afternoon.
Devils Highlights
- Sophomore Xavier Diaz had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI and one run scored.
- Senior Parker Muratore helped lead the offense today, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Junior Peter Longo also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-7 with a double and two RBI.
- Junior Trenon Stanard gave the Devils a chance in extras, throwing three scoreless innings while giving up no hits and striking out two.
How It Happened
- The Devils wasted no time today, scoring in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff walk to junior John Rolli, a double from Longo brought him home to score the first run of the day. An RBI hit-by-pitch from first year Christian Zamrok gave the team a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the frame.
- The Ospreys answered back in the bottom of the third as a two RBI single knotted the game up at 2-2. In the top of the fourth inning, the Devils regained the lead after a two-run inning put them up 2-0. RBI singles from Diaz and Longo was all it took for the team to be back in the driver's seat. First year Alex Hart kept Stockton at bay as he put up two scoreless innings for the Devils.
- In the top of the sixth, the Devils had their final scoring opportunity of the day. Back-to-back singles from Muratore and Rolli set up a two-run double off the bat of Diaz to put the team on top 6-2. After two more scoreless innings in relief from sophomore Tyler Gaetano and first year CJ Bates, the Osprey would unfortunately tie things up at 6-6 after a costly error in the bottom of the ninth.
- While the bats were trying to find an answer, Stanard continued to fight on the mound and give the team a chance to win it in extras. After three scoreless innings, the Devils would eventually lose the game in the bottom of the 13th inning after another costly error.
Game Notes
- Seven players recorded a hit in today's loss, with three players having a multi-hit game.
- Junior Evan Sabo, Hart, Gaetano, Bates and Stanard all combined to throw 8 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing five hits and striking out four.
