MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham baseball team drop their first of three games against the Bulldogs Friday afternoon.
Devils Highlights
- Sophomore Xavier Diaz led the offense in today's game, going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run, three RBI and one run scored.
- Junior John Rolli continued his hot streak, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
- Senior Ryan Johnston had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBI.
- Sophomore Matthew Bond also had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
How It Happened
- The Devils offense had a slow start to the day, getting things started in the bottom of the third inning. With two quick outs to lead off the bottom of the frame, senior Parker Muratore worked a 3-2 walk and Rolli followed it up with a hard single to left center. This set the stage for Diaz to rope a three-run homerun to right field and cut the deficit down to 10-3.
- The Devils would add another run to their day in the bottom of the fifth inning. Started again by a single off the bat of Rolli, Diaz followed with a single of his own and the offense had a runner in scoring position. With two outs, Johnston delivered a pinch-hit RBI single that scored Rolli and made the game 14-4.
- The final runs of the day came in the bottom of the eighth inning. Keeping up with the trend of starting each inning with two quick outs, junior Jake Knapp started the team with a two out single to left field. From there, the Devils recorded three hits and two walks to keep their hopes of a comeback alive. RBI from Rolli, Johnston and Bond cut the Bulldogs lead down to 19-7 and ultimately was the final score due to daylight.
Game Notes
- Seven players recorded a hit in today's loss, with three players having a multi-hit game.
